Building Self Esteem

Self-Esteem Will Lead You to Self-Improvement

How do you stay calm, remain composed, and maintain self esteem in a tough environment? Here are some great tips that can help you walk around the streets with more confidence.

In life, it’s hard to stay tough, especially when things and people around you keep pulling you down. When we get to the battlefield, we should choose the right tools to bring and armor to use, and pick those that are bullet proof. Life is always giving us these options, and it is up to us to make the choice. During the battle, we will get hit and bruised, but we learn from it, and the next time we make different choices. The moment has arrived right now to be confident in the choices we make. Building self-esteem will lead to self-improvement if we start to become responsible for who we are, what we have, and what we do. It’s like a flame that should gradually spread like a fire from inside and out. When we develop self-esteem, we take control of our mission, values, and discipline. Self-esteem brings about self-improvement, true assertment, and determination. So, how do you start putting up the building blocks of self-esteem?

“If you want others to respect you. The first step is to respect yourself!” (Knigge, 1788)

Nobody is Perfect, but You Are Valuable

First of all, we have to stop devaluing ourselves. How on earth can we make progress if we continuously take ourselves down? We drill ourselves into the ground. Please stop it! Open yourself to improvement. Nobody is perfect, but you are valuable. It is ok to laugh at your mistakes, and accept them as new learning experiences. Own your imperfections. Everyone has them. This is one of the most important things in life - learn from your mistakes. Leave the past behind. What has happened happened. It cannot be reversed. Accept this and start over. You took the first step already by looking around this website. Start again and create a new confident you.

When you focus on the things you do not have or cannot do, you make up reasons why you do not have it or cannot do it. This just decreases your self-esteem. You won’t get any further in life by not taking action. Be thankful for the things you can do, and be thankful for the things you do have. When you wake up in the morning, remember which victories you have achieved in your life. Think of the fun things you have experienced in your life. Think of the things you do best. Think about your friendships. This way of thinking will develop extra positive energy in your life that will help you build your self-esteem. You will feel more independent, and less jealous. You will become more motivated and give a boost to your confidence. Be proactive in your life instead of reactive. Do not be a victim of your own life. You are the captain of your life, so start steering yourself in the right direction.

Accepting Compliments

Perhaps the easiest step that we can make is accepting compliments that we receive. You know how it goes: "Nice jacket you have." ? "You think so? It was on sale!" Or, "You've got a beauty of a girlfriend (or boyfriend for women)” ? "Yeah huh! I do not understand why I'm this lucky." Stop it. From now on, for every compliment you get, say thank you kindly. If you do not accept compliments, you will not give yourself the opportunity to believe them and build your confidence. By accepting compliments you develop your self-esteem. At the same time, it is great to throw out compliments too. Enjoy being generous with compliments. Search for the best in others and compliment them. This gives them some extra confidence too. People will appreciate your compliments and give them back, so indirectly you will also improve your self-esteem.

Boost Up Your Self-Esteem

Let people know who you are, and see another increase in confidence. Are you always the quietest person in group discussions, because you have a low self-esteem? Are you afraid that you will say something stupid? To boost up confidence, you can try to say something in every possibility that passes by. People are often more tolerant than we think they are. Besides, most people are often to busy thinking about themselves, worrying about our judgments of them. If you speak up more often, it will go slightly easier every single time. Moreover, this also helps you in developing your skills to speak in front of groups. Speaking of groups, in most places on earth, the insecure people are those who sit quietly in the backseat. After all, insecurities make us want to be unnoticeable possible. To boost up our self-confidence, we must break this pattern. Let’s sit in the front this time. First of all, you can focus better so you can catch important information much more easily. Second, important people notice you, which can have benefits of their own. Third, you will boost up your self-esteem and feel more comfortable in a group environment.

Here’s another great tip. Dress well. Have a good set of clothes in your closet. When you think you are looking good, you will show this indirectly to the people around you. You will feel better about yourself, and those around you notice this. You may have a few people walking around your neighborhood who always are dressed well. Try to think about how others see these people. Often it is a very positive perception. Now it remains difficult, because pretty clothes are often too expensive for lots of people. However, spending a little extra money will bring you a great amount of benefits. Often, more expensive clothes will last longer too. It is not about which brand you are wearing, but by slightly more expensive clothes, we mean good quality clothes. A great tip is spending twice as much on clothes, but buying half as much. Instead of purchasing two shirts at 10 dollars each, try to buy a quality shirt for 20 dollars. This quality will bring you more benefits - it will look better on you, you will feel more comfortable with yourself, and the people around you will notice it. For example, last year I bought a winter coat for the expensive price of 120 dollars. I am still wearing this coat and it’s still in perfect shape. I especially the positive reactions from the people around me, and it gives me a huge boost of self-esteem.

Be positive. Be content and happy. Be thankful, and never miss a chance to throw out compliments. A positive lifestyle will help you boost up your confidence.
